Starting September 17, the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art’s “Say Their Names NYC” memorial launches in Membit. This 100% augmented reality exhibition will only be visible in the location in central park where Seneca Village once stood.
The memorial was inspired by Say Their Names Memorial and was done in a physical manifestation in San Diego last year. This new, entirely digital, version takes advantage of the fact that AR can be anywhere to make the place where it is just as much a part of the meaning of the memorial as the people who’s images and names it memorializes.
Membit’s HPS (Human Positioning System) means that this memorial can exist in Central Park without the need for QR codes, posters or advanced scanning of the location.
