Membit was incredibly honored to be one of the many organizations supporting this year’s #Juneteenth Jubilee NYC! The Wide Awakes and The Blacksmiths worked together to bring another Juneteenth celebration to Downtown Brooklyn. This day of celebration centered Black women and honored Black joy, liberation and resilience.
In addition to the unveiling of Helina Metaferia‘s new mural at MoCADA sculpture park from her series “By Way of Revolution,” Membit showcased three other works from that series in augmented reality (Headdresses 4, 13, and 21). Membit volunteers were on-site showing passersby Helina’s larger-than-life work in AR at Fort Greene Park (in front of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument). Thank you to Helina for trusting us to bring your powerful work into a new medium.
Also a special thanks to curator and multidisciplinary artist Wildcat Ebony Brown for being enthusiastic about including an AR element at this wonderful event.
